With introduction of the summer flight schedule the Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair opens a new destination Karlsruhe/ Baden-Baden in Germany. The flights on the new route will be commenced on 27 March 2012 and performed three times a week – on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
On 25 March 2012 the carrier Estonian Air resumed flights from Tallinn to Riga and back that would take place 17 times a week. Estonian Air will fly on this route three times a day on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and once a day – on Saturdays and Sundays.
In March 2012 the Czech carrier Czech Airlines looked back at twenty years of operations at Riga International Airport. The passengers of the arriving and departing jubilee flight were pleasantly surprised by the celebrations of the twentieth anniversary in Riga by the airline and the airport.
In the summer flight schedule of Riga International Airport the frequency of flights will increase by 35 percent compared with the winter season. There will be more flights to such destinations as Helsinki, Tallinn, Vilnius, Moscow, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and other.
On 5 March the Turkish company ATU at Riga Airport opened a new shopping area of 1307 m2 with 15 shops.
The Ground Handling Department of Riga International Airport last year achieved the highest peak in its history in terms of the quality of services rendered to passengers and aircraft. „In the situation that the number of passengers is steadily growing, we can pride ourselves in excellent service quality,” said Arnis Luhse, Chairman of the Board of Riga International Airport.
The environment advertising company JCDecaux Latvija has signed an exclusive 10-year advertising contract with Riga International Airport on the management of the airport’s advertising space and placement of advertising objects.
From the beginning of February the passengers of the airline RYANAIR have an option to pay Riga Airport security charge by their mobile phones via the payment system Mobilly by texting RIX to number 1859.
