In the years 2006 and 2007 aviation sector and its direct and indirect impact accounted for 1.95% of Latvia’s gross domestic product (GDP).
Tonight RIGA International Airport was forced to detain flight No. TE709 to Vilnius performed by the Lithuanian airline FlyFAL until settlement of the outstanding debt to the airport for the groundhandling services.
RIGA International Airport has received the payment for the services provided to the Lithuanian airline FlyLAL this summer. The settlement of the bill issued to FlyLAL is sufficient to give it clearance for the delayed flight No. E709 to Vilnius.
Today, on October 17th, RIGA International Airport during a special ceremony has opened a runaway that without limitations can accept the airplanes of any size and type. This means that of one of the major preconditions for the airport to become a prominent Northern-European air transit center is accomplished!
