„ACI Europe Best Airport in Europe 2005” (in the category of up to 5 million passengers)
At the congress of the Airports Council International (ACI Europe) in Munich RIGA International Airport was awarded as the Best Airport in Europe in the category of up to five million passengers serviced per year.
Roy Griffin, Director General of the organization, noted that RIGA International Airport had joined the European Union as the best-prepared airport. The jury praised the professionalism of the staff of RIGA International Airport in all the areas of work.
The award is a high yet well-deserved prize for our efforts. It is the greatest international tribute that RIGA International Airport has ever received.
In the 15th annual congress of ACI Europe the title was contested by five airports in the categories defined according to the number of passengers serviced by the airport.
In the category of more than 25 million passengers the best airport’s title was given to Frankfurt Airport, in the category of 10-25 million passengers – to Athens Airport, in the category of 5-10 million passengers – to Marseilles Airport and in the category of up to one million - to Sarajevo Airport.
The jury composed of the journalists reporting on the aviation industry assessed the airports according to a number of criteria – passenger service quality, aircraft handling, security measures, non-aviation services etc.
